How nationwide coverage actually works

Legal document work in Thailand is centralised in a way that is easy to underestimate. Certified translations can be prepared anywhere, but the authorities that give a document its legal weight sit in specific places: the Legalization Division of the Department of Consular Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassies and consulates accredited to Thailand — almost all of them in Bangkok — and the courts or district offices where a filing is finally made. Our regional offices therefore act as intake and verification points, while the Bangkok head office runs the government-facing part of the file.

That split matters for planning. A client in Chiang Mai or Khon Kaen does not need to travel to Bangkok for the legalization stage, but the schedule still follows Bangkok government office hours and the queue at the relevant embassy. When a case involves a personal appearance — a notarial act such as an acknowledgement, an affidavit sworn before a Notarial Services Attorney, or the certification of a signature — we schedule that appearance locally and route the paperwork onward.

Notarial practice in Thailand differs from the civil-law notary model found in much of Europe. There is no separate notarial profession: notarial acts are carried out by lawyers who hold a licence from the Lawyers Council of Thailand under Royal Patronage and who are registered as Notarial Services Attorneys. Foreign receiving authorities generally expect the notarial certificate to be followed by legalization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and, where required, by attestation at the destination country's embassy.

For provincial clients we work primarily with couriered originals and scanned previews. A scan is enough to confirm the document type, the spelling of names against the passport, and the chain of steps the destination authority will require; the physical original is only needed when a seal or wet signature must be inspected or when an embassy demands the original be produced.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to come to the office in person?
Not for most document work. Originals can be sent by courier or collected by our staff, and finished files are returned the same way. Certain notarial acts require the signatory to appear before the Notarial Services Attorney, and we arrange that appointment at the office nearest to you.
Which office handles documents from a province with no branch?
Provincial cases are handled by the nearest regional office and coordinated with the Bangkok head office, because Ministry of Foreign Affairs legalization and embassy attestation are performed in Bangkok and Nonthaburi.
Are Notary Public services available outside Bangkok?
Yes. In Thailand, notarial acts are performed by lawyers registered as Notarial Services Attorneys with the Lawyers Council of Thailand under Royal Patronage; our registered attorneys serve clients through the regional offices as well as the head office.
How do I confirm coverage for my address?
Send us the district and province and we will confirm the collection option and the schedule. Phone 083-249-4999, LINE @NYCLI or email nyclegal@ilc.ltd.
