Question

What certifications do MDES documents need before overseas use?

Answer

Three or four steps: (1) MDES original (2) certified translation (3) MFA legalisation/Apostille (4) destination embassy (non-Hague only) — total 7–10 business days.

Certification Chain (4 steps · total 7–10 business days)

  1. Step 1Obtain original document from Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (1–3 business days)

Applicant must obtain the original document issued by Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) with official seal and signature. If older than 6 months, some destination countries require a fresh reissue.

  2. Step 2Certified translation by a qualified translator (1–2 business days)

NYC Legal translates MDES documents into English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, French, German, and 20+ other languages. Each translation carries the translator's certification statement and company seal.

  3. Step 3Thai MFA Legalisation or Apostille (2–5 business days)

The Department of Consular Affairs (MFA) certifies the translation and upstream signatures. 14 February 2026 onward, MFA will issue an Apostille for Hague-member destinations.

  4. Step 4Destination embassy legalisation (non-Hague only) (3–15 business days)

If the destination country is not a Hague member, the document must be legalised at that country's embassy in Bangkok. Fees vary by embassy.
