Legal & document news in Thailand

Updates on notarial certification, Ministry of Foreign Affairs legalisation, embassy requirements, NAATI-certified translation and visa policy — written by the lawyers and translators who handle these files every day. Every item cites the issuing authority.

The single most important date right now

Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, and the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Until that date, Thai public documents used abroad still require the existing two-step chain: legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) followed by the destination country’s embassy. Source: HCCH status table (Convention 12). No official Apostille fee schedule has been published by the Department of Consular Affairs yet, so we do not quote one.
