Why you need a Re-entry Permit
If a foreigner on a Non-Immigrant visa (Non-B, Non-O, Retirement, LTR, Elite; Smart exempt) leaves Thailand WITHOUT one, Section 39 automatically cancels the visa. Returning requires a new visa from a consulate or falling back on 30-day exemption (losing the accumulated rights).
Single vs Multiple
Single (THB 1,000) — one exit-entry, ideal for a single trip. Multiple (THB 3,800) — unlimited exit-entries until the visa expires, suited to business travellers / expats leaving frequently.
Airport filing before boarding
Suvarnabhumi Ch.2 Immigration counter (24 hrs) · Don Mueang T2 · Phuket · Chiang Mai — file at least 3 hrs before check-in with flight ticket + passport. Cash or QR payment accepted.
If you forgot and already left
Visa is cancelled. Options: (1) re-enter on 30-day exemption, then apply TM.87. (2) Apply for new visa at your home country's Thai consulate. (3) Some airport Immigration may 'Grant Visa' on discretion for Work Permit holders with Thai family — an attorney can sometimes negotiate this.
Re-entry rules for LTR/Elite/Smart
LTR — not required (Multi-entry built in). Elite — Elite Personal Assistant handles it. Smart — not required. Non-B/O/ED — required every trip.
