What is Signature Authentication & Legalization and Why Use a Thai Notary Public
Signature Authentication & Legalization is a legal certification performed by a Notarial Services Attorney licensed by the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the 2008 regulation on registration of attorneys for signature and document certification.
Performed by an attorney registered as a Notarial Services Attorney with the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the regulation on registration of attorneys for signature and document certification.
Documents certified by a Thai Notary carry significantly more legal weight abroad than uncertified documents, because the destination authority treats the document as having passed authority verification by a recognised certifier under Thai law.
Note that in Thailand, "Notary Public" is not a government office (as in civil-law countries like Germany or France) — it is a licensed attorney who has completed the Notarial Services Attorney course. Licences are renewed periodically; clients can verify any certifier's licence number before engaging.
Scope of Signature Authentication & Legalization
Our Signature Authentication & Legalization workflow covers the following primary steps:
1. Verify the signer's identity from a valid passport or Thai ID 2. Witness the signature live and apply Notary seal + registration number 3. Issue an English-language Notarial Certificate bound to the original 4. Forward to MFA Legalization + Embassy under one workflow
We provide end-to-end service: free draft review before the appointment, the notarization itself (walk-in or mobile), MFA Legalization at the Department of Consular Affairs, and Embassy Legalization at the destination's mission in Bangkok. Clients complete the entire chain in one engagement.
For foreign clients who prefer not to travel, we offer Mobile Notary to your condo, hotel, hospital, or office throughout Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and to upcountry locations via our 77-province agent network. Travel fee is waived when 3+ documents are notarized in one Bangkok visit.
Common Documents Using Signature Authentication
Over the past 8 years (since 2016), we have provided Signature Authentication for a wide range of documents. The most frequent categories are:
• Power of Attorney (individual and corporate) • Overseas property sale & purchase agreements • Lease, loan, and service contracts • Parental consent to travel • Medical and educational consent letters • Cross-border Letter of Intent / MOU
Each document type has different preparation requirements — personal documents require originals and ID; corporate documents require a company affidavit ≤30 days old; academic documents need the institution's seal. Our team will send a tailored checklist via LINE before the appointment to make the visit as fast as possible.
When You Need Signature Authentication
Signature Authentication is required in the following situations:
→ Foreign authority requires a notarized signature → Signer is in Thailand but the document is for overseas use → You need to prevent later denial of signature → Preparing for Apostille / Embassy Legalization
If you are unsure whether your document needs notarization, message us free on LINE @nycli with the document type and the destination country — we reply within 15 minutes during business hours with a recommended workflow and a full cost estimate before you commit.
Our 5-Step Process
1. **Free Consultation and Draft Review** — Send the draft on LINE. We review within 15 minutes during business hours and propose wording changes to ensure acceptance by the destination authority. No charge at this stage.
2. **Appointment with the Notary** — Choose walk-in at one of our 4 offices, Mobile Notary in Bangkok/surroundings, or Online Video Notary (where the destination's law permits).
3. **Certification by the Notary Public** — The attorney verifies identity, reviews the document, signs, stamps, and issues the Notary Certificate within 30–60 นาที (Walk-in).
4. **MFA Legalization (if required)** — Forwarded to the Department of Consular Affairs: 2 business days standard / 1 business day express, fees quoted on request / 400 per document.
5. **Embassy Legalization** — Forwarded to the destination's embassy in Bangkok. Our team visits Wireless Road and Sukhumvit embassy clusters every business day, which is faster than clients filing themselves.
Fees and Turnaround
Fees for Signature Authentication start at quoted on request per document and reach approximately quoted on request for the most complex cases. The fee includes free draft review, an English-language Notary Certificate, and entry in our notarial register as required by the Lawyers Council.
Notary turnaround is 30–60 นาที (Walk-in) per document set. Plan an additional 5–10 business days if MFA + Embassy is needed — some destinations (Germany, Austria) take longer than others (USA, Australia).
