When TM.87 applies
When you entered Thailand on visa exemption (P.30) or Tourist Visa (TR 60-day) and want to convert to Non-Immigrant (Non-B work, Non-O family, Non-ED study) without exiting to a foreign Thai consulate.
Eligibility conditions
(1) At least 15 days remaining. (2) Class-specific documents ready. (3) No overstay in past 5 years. (4) In-person biometrics + interview. (5) Willing to accept 30–45-day Under Consideration period.
TM.87 vs consular application abroad
TM.87: saves THB 5,000–15,000 in flights and travel time, but you cannot leave Thailand during Under Consideration. Consular route: faster (7 days) with near 100% approval on complete files. Choose TM.87 when (1) urgent work start, (2) complete docs, (3) no exit needed for 45 days.
Current TM.87 approval rate
2025 approval ~70–85% (varies by class and Immigration office). Non-O Marriage highest (~90%). Non-B lowest (~60% — corporate documents scrutinised). NYC Legal's pre-audit raises approval to 92–95%.
Alternative: border run + consulate
Vientiane (Laos) or Penang (Malaysia) Thai consulates issue Non-Immigrant in ~7 days. Total cost THB 15,000–25,000 vs TM.87 THB 10,000–15,000. Trade off time vs certainty.
