Why Norwegian nationals need a Thai Police Clearance
Norwegian residents in Thailand for 6+ months are typically required by Norway authorities to submit a "country of residence" police-clearance certificate — most commonly for Permanent Residency application in Norway, Work-visa renewal or naturalisation in Norway, Cross-border marriage registration in Norway.
The Special Branch (Criminal Investigation Division, Royal Thai Police) is the only issuing authority for foreign residents; fingerprinting is mandatory for every application.

Important: from 28 February 2027 Thailand is a Hague Apostille member. If Norway is also a member (130 contracting parties), the embassy step is dropped — a single MFA Apostille is sufficient.
