Why Taiwanese nationals need a Thai Police Clearance
Taiwanese residents in Thailand for 6+ months are typically required by Taiwan authorities to submit a "country of residence" police-clearance certificate â most commonly for Permanent Residency application in Taiwan, Work-visa renewal or naturalisation in Taiwan, Cross-border marriage registration in Taiwan.
The Special Branch (Criminal Investigation Division, Royal Thai Police) is the only issuing authority for foreign residents; fingerprinting is mandatory for every application.
Taiwan accepts Thai documents that complete the CID + MFA + Taiwan Embassy chain.

4) MFA Legalisation Division (Chaeng Watthana) â 2â3 business days.
5) Taiwan Embassy in Bangkok final attestation (1â7 business days depending on the embassy).
Important: from 28 February 2027 Thailand is a Hague Apostille member. If Taiwan is also a member (130 contracting parties), the embassy step is dropped â a single MFA Apostille is sufficient.
