สถานะการเข้าร่วม Apostille Convention ของประเทศไทย ปี 2026

For English readers

This article is published in Thai. The full Thai text is reproduced below. If it concerns Thailand’s accession to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, the two dates that matter are: instrument of accession deposited 30 June 2026, entry into force for Thailand 28 February 2027. Until that date, Thai public documents used abroad still require legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) followed by the destination country’s embassy or consulate. Attorney's note: what this news means for your filings today

The accession is real but not yet effective: Thailand deposited its instrument with the Netherlands on 30 June 2026, and the Convention takes effect for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Any document you file before that date still follows the full legalisation chain — Department of Consular Affairs, then the destination embassy. Plan long-running cases (visas, overseas marriages, company set-ups) around that timeline rather than waiting.

  • Documents legalised before 28 February 2027 stay valid; you do not need to redo them once the Convention applies.
  • During the six-month window after deposit, existing parties may lodge objections — we re-check the HCCH table before advising on each country.
  • MFA Thailand has not yet named the Thai competent authority or published an Apostille fee schedule.

Watch out for

  • Do not cite earlier rumoured dates; only the HCCH depositary notification is authoritative.
  • Some receiving authorities update their own rules slowly and may still ask for embassy legalisation after the date.
